black friday haul pt.2: glossier (swatches and first impressions)
Hello again ladies,
It's time for another haul. This one is very different from yesterday's haul, as it is much more natural makeup (sorry if you only like blue lipstick and green highlighter because this probably isn't the post for you but I like variety) from the brand Glossier. Glossier's slogan is 'Skin First, Makeup Second' which is reflected in all their products. Here are pictures of how everything arrived and the stickers that were included with my order.
To start, I got a sample of their Milky Jelly Cleanser. I have heard good things about this, so I look forward to trying it. This product along with the priming moisturizer and balm dotcom universal skin salve are available for 40USD in the Phase 1 set. Individually, it is either 9USD or 18USD depending on the size you choose.
The first actual item I bought was the priming moisturizer. I have only used this once so far but I am really enjoying it. It reminds me a little of the Too Faced Hangover primer, one of my favorites, but thicker. It soaked into the skin quickly and I didn't feel dry afterward. Definitely a good first step for the Glossier face. If you have extremely dry skin, they also have a rich version, but so far this seemed to work on my dry skin. The priming moisturizer is 22USD and the rich version is 35USD.
I also picked up the perfecting skin tint in the shade medium. It gives hardly any coverage but gives a nice glossy look to the skin. Pairs nicely with the rest of the products. This brand is undoubtedly cohesive. Overall I would not recommend this brand for people with oily skin, but for people with dry skin like myself, this is great. The perfecting skin tint is 26USD.
I also picked up the stretch concealer. I chose the shade light for this one because I intend to use it under my eyes. It is again very dewy and I enjoy it so far. I am considering picking up the shade medium for use on the face. This product retails for 18USD.
Both the skin tint and concealer are available in five shades, which may not sound like enough to most people. While this shade range could definitely be extended, it covers a pretty wide spectrum. The products are also so sheer that an exact match is really not necessary, as hardly any pigment is actually deposited. I picked up the wowder in the shade light/medium. There are 2 deeper shades of this as well that I hear can make nice bronzer shades for lighter skin. I think a lighter or translucent shade would also be beneficial to this line. This powder is 22USD. I have not used this one yet, but the packaging is cute and the powder feels nice. I have heard good things so I have high expectations.
Since I am a highlighter fiend, I picked up the haloscope in Quartz. This is a nice dewy highlighting stick. It does not dry down but does not feel heavy on the skin. There is one lighter shade, moonstone, which is an opalescent type shade. There is also a deeper shade called topaz which is a nice golden bronze shade. This shade would look great on deeper skin tones or as a shiny bronzer for lighter skin. I am a big fan of the glossy highlight look and this shade would be pretty universally flattering in my opinion. I purchased my haloscope in a duo with boy brow for 30USD, but it is 22USD individually.
The final piece of my Glossier haul was the iconic boy brow. I got the shade brown because I love a bold brow. I am a big fan of fiber brow gels like this one; my favorite is the kush brow gel from Milk Makeup in the shade Dutch. Both of these cost 18USD, but I got this in a bundle with the haloscope as mentioned above. It's nice so far, but I don't know if I like it more than the Milk one. I will have to tweeze my eyebrows and try again before I decide.
I have included swatched of all the products (except the primer) on my hand and face below with and without flash. Boy brow is on the left of the hand swatches and from top to bottom the products are as follows: skin tint, concealer, haloscope, wowder. I also did a quick look using only the products discussed in this haul. I did not use the powder or add any mascara or lip products because I did this sitting on my couch and didn't want to get up and get a brush or other products.
This post has taken me roughly four hours because I am very invested in Private Practice right now so it has been hard for me to focus. I am also a little bit starving. I plan to pick up some of the lidstars and cloud paints as well as the mascara from Glossier sometime soon so I can do a full face review. So far I am really enjoying them and plan to take them home for winter break (the sign of a true love affair) and wear them to work. I think they will do a good job of making me look youthful, fresh, and awake, which will be much needed at my full-time job immediately after finals week ends. Bonne chance (that means good luck, I was working on my french final presentation today) on finals to all you students out there, -Jessie
