Hello again ladies (ladies being a gender-neutral term),
It's time for another haul. I did a lil black friday sale shopping and the first few items have arrived so I thot it was time to share. As a preview, I will tell you that this is part JSC (Jeffree Star Cosmetics) including the new alien collection (although the Northern Lights supreme frost highlight palette and more liquid lip shades are going to be revealed tomorrow and I'm sure I'll want some) and part Kylie Cosmetics. More items from both brands are on their way, I already want to buy more shades of some of the items I received in this haul (we will discuss this more later), and I have a few items from Glossier that are supposed to arrive tomorrow which I am very excited to try. (How would you like me to show these items? a full face Glossier post? I will need to order a few more items to do this but I want to anyways so let me know. Do you want a separate Glossier haul post or wait to include them with the rest of my Kylie and Jeffree Star things?) Last thing, I have a dupe to share with you at the end which is very exciting. I have hyperlinked all the products throughout the post in case you are looking to buy any of the items I am showing. I bought everything through the respective brand sites, so that's what I will be linking, but select Kylie products are now available at Ulta and JSC products are available through Beauty Bay and Beautylish. I have also made sure to include swatches in both indirect and direct natural light.

a quick overview of my haul |
Since I purchased both face and lip products from both brands, we will start with face products (Jeffree then Kylie so it's alphabetized).
The first item I picked up from JSC was a liquid frost in the shade
Frostbite. This was not my first choice of shade, but both
Canary Bling and
Frozen Peach were sold out. So far I am liking Frostbite, it's basically invisible on the skin until the light hits it so you can see the sparkle. It gives a very similar effect to Fenty's Diamond Bomb highlighter. I may do a post about these types of sheer glitter products in the future. I am a big fan of this look, but the liquid frosts are definitely not for people who don't like glitter. There is a good shade range and you receive just over 1floz for 25USD. A little goes a long way, so I cannot imagine you would go through one of these unless you like to cover your entire body in it. It does dry down, so you will not have to worry about it staying tacky and sticking to things like Fenty's body lava.

The second face product I picked up from Jeffree Star Cosmetics was a supreme frost in the shade
Money Honey. This is probably the item I was most excited about for this haul because I am a highlighter fanatic and nothing gets me more excited than interesting colors and glitter. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. This is another product that is not for the glitter-haters of the world (other than possibly the shade Frozen Peach but I don't have it so I don't know for sure) but is absolutely
stunning if you like some sparkle. I'm looking forward to the reveal of his new supreme frost palette and picking up some more singles in the future (Wet Dream and Hypothermia specifically). Money Honey is a gold-green but in person it also has some pink in it. Used very sparingly this could work on extremely fair skin because it is possible to deposit glitter to the face without the base color by tapping on the product with your finger and tapping onto the high points of the face. This color will also look gorgeous on deeper skin and could definitely be applied more heavily.

The only Kylie Cosmetics face product in this first part of the haul is the Kris Jenner collection
face palette. I wanted this when it originally released, but it unfortunately sold out before I could get my hands on it. I thought that was the end of the road, but was pleasantly surprised to see her on the site whilst I was doing my black friday browsing. Obviously this was a sign that I was meant to have her, so I bought the palette.
This feels much better quality than I had originally anticipated, with a nice weight to it and a great, large mirror. Honestly, I bought this mostly for the novelty (the packaging, the shade names, my love for Kris Jenner), but I do think I'll get some good use out of this. I plan to use the shades 'It's Snowing Pussy Willows' and 'Money Doesn't Grow On Trees' as highlighters. The shades 'Your Sister's Going to Jail' and 'I Raised You On Mac N Cheese' will be used as blushes. I can also see myself using these shades as eyeshadow when I'm going for a monochromatic look, or if this is the only palette I have with me.
Here are the swatches of all the face products on my hand together.
Next in this haul, we have lip products. I have been curious to try Kylie's lip kits since they launched in 2016, but have always heard such mixed reviews that I never did until now. I will have a follow-up post with my feelings about them once I receive the other shades I ordered and test them out. I continue to purchase JSC velour liquid lipsticks because they are my favorite formula (and I have tried many) and have such a wide range of colors. I believe I have at least 20 shades from his line by now.
From his most recent alien collection, I chose the shades
Karma and
yOuR'e sTiLl oN thE pRoPeRty. I love the interesting (read: non-neutral) shades that Jeffree releases and get a surprising amount of use out of them, as well as many compliments. I also love the names of these two. Karma is a khaki green and YSOTP is a metallic navy. I am also interested in the shades Hi, How Are Ya? (a pink-red with glitter) and Triggered (a deep plum with glitter) but am glad I resisted because more shades are being revealed tomorrow. I also got
Human Nature, a dark mauve nude.

I have been interested in the shade
Love Bite from Kylie Cosmetics since it was released two years ago in her fall collection. I finally decided to pick it up. The color is gorgeous and the liners are already a contender for my favorite formula. The liquid lipstick itself did feel rather dry, but I have not yet given it a full-day wear test.
Immediately upon swatching Human Nature, I expected it would look very similar to Love Bite. I swatched them next to each other and was shocked to find they are actually exact dupes. I even showed my roommates, who thot I had swatched the same one twice. I am super nitpicky when it comes to dupes, so when I say they're exactly the same, I mean exactly. the. same. So if you've been interested in one but don't buy from one of these brands, try checking the other one out. Personally, I'm excited to try using the Love Bite lip liner with Human Nature. Arm swatches of all the shades are included below followed by lip swatches.

The next picture was taken with flas before Love Bite had finished drying, but you can see than Human Nature and the Love Bite lip liner are exactly the same color.

I hope you all enjoyed this haul and swatches! Which colors were your favorite? What do you think of the dupe I accidentally found? I tried searching the web to see if anyone else had posted about it and couldn't find anything which surprised me. Talk to you all soon, -Jess
I thought Money Honey looked so cool in Jeffree’s reveal video but I automatically envisioned mostly darker-complected people wearing it because of the bold yellow color and crazy green reflexes. Because of this, I really like that you gravitated toward this shade- it is funky and a neat pick informed by a unique creative vision. Very on-brand. I am excited to see your looks with this product.
ReplyDeleteThe Kylie stuff looks cute and the formula looks good in your swatches. I have never heard of the Kris Jenner pallate and I absolutely love that. Very cool and lucky acquistion.
As for the Glossier,I am very excited to see what you are getting in and I would like to share my fascination with their company. Conspiracy and extrapolation will follow. Glossier’s best product is the image they associate with their brand. The dewey, youthful, healthy, rosy-cheeked, effortlessly fashionable, “natural” look is just simply so beautiful. All of the models just look so content and cool and like they would be fun to be around. They are the “confident, everyday cool girl who is overflowing with inner” beauty ideal. This is a transmittable image that is simple, captivating and well- liked, and that is important because they have no retail/physical product sale. Instead of being able to pick up a product off a shelf, feel it in your hand, maybe even try a sample before you buy it, Glossier knows that it is really just working with the customer’s imagination.
Theyre selling pictures and ideas. The actual product comes in 5-7 business days. I think that this is so cool to think about. It is also very cool that Glossier combined the impulsiveness and visual literacy abilities of the social media era with the sense of belonging and strong exclusiveness created by the word-of-mouth and status-based aspects of Mary Kay, in order to create a sleek and highly productive modern twist on selling make-up.
I am fascinated with Glossier for this potent and captivating branding. I definitely fantasize about that cool and easy, girl-next-door, “natural beauty” version of myself that Glossier assures me I can blossom into. I haven’t decided if branding make-up products as enhancing “natural beauty” and releasing “inner beauty” is empowering and promoting individualism or is a self-esteem manipulation tactic that invites me to identify with a pretty model and then insinuates that all she did to look that good was slap some light coverage foundation into her “problem areas,” accentuate her full brows and embrace every flaw she has ever had, because she is so confident!! and glowing!! and happy!! and maybe, I can be like that too.
The concept of “natural beauty” is very privelged and exclusionary.
All that being said, I have spent $90 (a ton of money for me, especially spent on cosmetics) on Glossier products this year and am always very tempted to pick up something cute for myself when they email me a coupon link. My favorite Glossier product that I have is Lidstar in Cub. I love the look of the color pink on eyelids (reason i picked this color in the first place) and I love smearing the formula on my eyelid with my finger. I like how it blends really cool and that it feels kinda greasy.
It is 5:25 AM so it is time abandon my insecure perseverations and get my “beauty rest”
Love,
Shay
Oh my goodness i typed so much last night. I forgot to say that i would love to see full face Glossier with extensive review and comments
DeleteShay, your comments always brighten my day. I look forward to future shade releases of the supreme frost, hopefully they continue to be a little outside the box. I agree with your analysis on Glossier, and find it fascinating how successful they have managed to become simply by marketing you to yourself. I have heard Glossier called "makeup by pretty people for pretty people" which I think seems pretty accurate, but I also think lots of the appeal is that we want to be naturally beautiful and that's basically what they are selling. I am glad to hear you like the lidstar in Cub, as that is one of the items (along with the mascara and some cloud paint) that I plan to pick up in my next order. I wish I would have known to use your link when making my order so you could have earned some credits, but maybe next time. I am also interested to see what Glossier plans to release in the future, as they are limited in the scope of their products if they don't want to violate their own brand image, which I can see becoming a problem for them in the distant future. This is not an issue that Jeffree Star or Kylie will run into, as they have not limited themselves with such an image. Thank you for your continued support, Jessie
DeleteThat’s a really good point omg. I never thought about what would happen when they want to grow their brand and introduce new products. The bared down and simplistic look that they have found success in and catered their branding aroung will not support growth in the ways that most brands are able to expand and tackle other looks. Very interesting. I love the crazy colors that Jeffree always comes out with. They seem weird but people end up rocking them and creating unique and funky looks; which reflects Jeffree’s own creativity and aptitude for business.
